This weekend, I went to Smorgasburg or "Eating Man" as I like to call it.
Smorgasburg is a gathering of Brooklynite foodies and wannabe foodies. But I just came for the nice view and the ramen burger (see below).
The festival is held on Saturdays in Williamsburg at East River State Park (Kent Avenue & N. 7th Street) and on Sundays at Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 5).
Smorgasburg's vendors serve everything from eggplant sliders (see above) to bulgogi and Burmese noodles.
My darling friend, Leore joined in on the festivities. She came to visit all the way from LA and we went on adventures all weekend.
Leore went for one of Pizza Motto's five minute pizzas.
I tried a slice. It was pretty delicious.
I stood in line for the infamous Ramen Burger or the "new Cronut" as many like to call it. The Japanese-American combo features a hamburger patty squished between two compressed ramen noodle patties and scallions. I can't stop thinking about it.
My parents and I went to indoor Smorgasburg a few weeks ago, but my camera was acting crazy. I was able to capture a photo of the food I ordered from Palenque. One tasty multigrain arepa with vegetarian organic chipotle chorizo.
After Smorgasburg, we headed up the block to Artists & Fleas.
It's a weekly gathering of local artists, designers and lovers of vintage clothing.
I snapped a photo of some cute jewelry and the designer went batshit. I was told to delete each picture, but I went against her wishes and kept the photo above. She explained why she was agitated and I completely understand. It's no secret that retail giants like Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie send out their cronies out to rip designs off lesser-known artists and that shit sucks, but I'm not one of those cronies and my blog has little clout. And who's to say one of those cronies couldn't just buy the jewelry and photograph it in the privacy of their home? If it weren't for her piss-poor attitude I would have honored her wishes and deleted the photo, but she was being a bitch and I figured in some way it could add to my blog. I didn't take photos of any of the other designers' work, but I really wanted to!
Okay, I lied. I have to show you what we bought. We couldn't walk away from Artists & Fleas without a little something. We took home some a ring and a keychain from Leroy's Place. You should check out some of their fun stuff.
We headed over to Fortunato Brothers Cafe for a little caffeine pick-me-up. It's a cafe of cakes and pastries with a gelato bar. I ordered a mini cheesecake. Leore ordered a blueberry turnover. I love Fortunato. The service was friendly and the dessert was good.
One bitch's quest to love NYC.
